I grew up in oelwein for most of my life and I clearly remember him coming the library four book signings in the summer of 2009, Needless to say, people were not happy. Would you be happy is your small community town was titled "Methland" ? I'm sure not. My dad knows Jeff and not everyone's side is heard in this book. I can proudly say oelwein, ia is a good and thriving community. Just because something is wrote about us doesn't mean everything is negative. You have to hear both sides

Nick Reding is the author of The Last Cowboys at the End of the World, and his writing has appeared in Outside, Food and Wine, and Harper's. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he decided to move back to his home town in the course of reporting this book.
