About this ebook

In this New York Times bestseller, a single father discovers the true nature of unconditional love when a new chance at happiness turns his world upside down.

At 32, Russell Green has it all: a stunning wife, a lovable six year-old daughter, a successful career as an advertising executive, and an expansive home in Charlotte. He is living the dream, and his marriage to the bewitching Vivian is at the center of it. But underneath the shiny surface of this perfect existence, fault lines are beginning to appear . . . and no one is more surprised than Russ when every aspect of the life he has taken for granted is turned upside down.
In a matter of months, Russ finds himself without a job or a wife, caring for his young daughter while struggling to adapt to a new and baffling reality. Throwing himself into the wilderness of single parenting, Russ embarks on a journey at once terrifying and rewarding -- one that will test his abilities and his emotional resources beyond anything he's ever imagined.
When a chance encounter with an old flame tempts him to take a chance on love again, he will navigate this new opportunity with trepidation and wonder. But with the loyal support of his parents, the wisdom of his older sister, Marge, and in the hard-won lessons of fatherhood, Russ will finally come to understand the true nature of unconditional love -- that it is a treasure to be bestowed, not earned.

I listened to this as an audio book. Russell came across as a doormat, Vivian as a vindictive "real housewive" wannabe, Emily was whimpy and London was beyond annoying! And how Russ was able to take 5 plus mile runs 1st thing in the morning as a single father with a young child at Home? This just was too long, too down out and in the end felt unfinished. I wish for his books like "The Notebook" again.

I have loved all his work since I picked up his first novel. This one was boring, drawn out and down right depressing. Not what I expected at all when his last one, See Me was so good! It had me going through so many different emotions that it took me days to finish. The wife made me the most mad, wish that in the end, karma would have slapped her in the face but she ended up getting exactly what she wanted, with the main character not learning how to stand up for himself. Better luck with the next one!

This book isn't what you would expect from Nicholas Sparks. It's not the epic romance that sweeps you away. It's an every day story, but it's still filled with magic. The lead's wife leaves him, and it becomes a father daughter love story. He has a young daughter (around five years old). He has to take on a lot of her care and comes to realize how wonderful spending time with her is. It's realistic and deals with a lot of real life issues. I wasn't overwhelmed with emotions like I feel during most of his books, but I did become emotionally connected and really liked it.
