There are some innovative elements of these novels, and I was sometimes captivated by the story, but the plot often moves unduly slowly and there is a lot of ponderous toing and froing about feeling of big feelings, which is then followed up by tedious reflection on said feelings. Book 3 is especially bloated in this regard. I guess I was hoping for some Ursula Leguin innovative thinking here, but it ain't happening.

I read the trilogy + novella in 3 days. It kept me wanting more to the point that I stayed up past 4:30am 2 days running to read. (Bad choices, but thank God for being on break and having children who let me sleep in late after making bad choices!) I loved the characters - I became truly attached to them and NEEDED to see what happened to them. More sex and gender-swapping than I would be comfortable having my teenage daughter read, but still a very fun read! I would love to read more side stories if there are any (first time reading this author; haven't looked yet).

I really enjoyed this series. It is grounded in a very enjoyable mythology that really really blossoms as you read further into the book. You are provide the information at a rate that leaves you wanting more. The characters are also well written in their conflicting ideals, values and desires. You truly experience the growth with the characters.
