This book tends to stagnate a bit, but that's partially because the first book was so original. What drew me in the first book was the illusion that this could all really happen, something the second book hadn't tried to do much. The book attempts to tie in characters from Jurassic Park, which it succeeds in doing, even expanding and devoloping on a couple. The gore and action scenes are more intense in Lost World, even if they are bit harder to believe. Some of the tangents the book goes off on are mildly interesting at best with a few thought provoking ones. The character polarities stand out, and the author does a nice job of hopping around between them to keep the reader engaged. I rate the book a 3, but it could easily be a 4.

Not as good as Jurassic Park, but a very good read. It's full of detail, character depth, and science. I'd give it five stars easily but it drags a bit in spots.

Do not be put off my the movie, the movie is nothing like this, they may as
well have not even named it after this novel. It was great. I love Michael
Crichton's writing. It's simple, yet complex, and he doesn't assume the
reader knows everything. He makes it easy to understand the science behind
it. The action, once they finally get to the island, is almost non-stop.
The characters are all lovable. And Ian Malcolm is an even bigger dick in
this one (which is wonderful). I would highly recommend this novel.
