About this ebook

INSPIRATION FOR THE ORIGINAL SERIES THE LINCOLN LAWYER – THE #1 TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

The bestselling legal thriller has charismatic defense attorney Mickey Haller taking on a slam-dunk court case involving a Beverly Hills playboy -- but as it spirals into a nightmare, he finds himself in a fight for his life.   Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers -- they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence, it's about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it's even about justice.   A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney's dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame. To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal -- this time to save his own life.

As a writer I know how hard and what a dream to come up with a character so riveting as Harry Bosch, but to do it a second time with Haller is phenomenal. Michael Connelly has never ever wrote a bad book, and I know because I have studied, not just read, every book he has put out. He has been my role model and this introduction to a new character is a wonderful example of a contemporary great writer in America today. Ralph Griffith, author Summer of Love 1967.

Mickey Haller works as a defense lawyer and does much of his work from the backseat of his Lincoln. His driver, Earl, is working off the fee for Mickey's successful defense in a case against him. Mickey is asked to defend the wealthy Louis Roulet from the accusation of aggrevated assault and attempted rape of Reggie Campo, a woman he met in a bar. From the start, Mickey is skeptical about Roulet when he catches the man in a number of lies about his past. Then, when Mickey sees a photo of Reggie, she bears a close resemblance to a woman that Mickey's former client Jesus Mendez, was sent to prison for murdering. One of Mickey's greatest concerns is that some day he wouldn't provide as good a defense as possible and an innocent person might go to prison. Now Mickey wonders if Mendez could really be innocent. Mickey visits him in prison and brings a number of photos, one of which is of Roulet. What Mickey learns is that he is now dealing with a truly evil person. The novel proceeds and Roulet is able to create a special reason for Mickey to win the case against him and set him free. He admits his past to Mickey and since there is an attorney-client privilege, Mickey cannot use this against him. We watch Mickey master the case and wonder how he will provide justice for Roulet, a man he is defending.
