ok I came into this as part of a current obsession with danmei. prior to starting thousand autumns, I had read mdzs, tgcf, svsss, and 2ha. my general expectation was a fun little romantasy book with maybe some engaging questions about morality. Thousand Autumns is easily one of the best books I've ever read. The characters are complex and compelling. The world building and historical references are STUNNING. For me, at least, these books have it all: themes of devotion to a greater cause; lessons in forgiveness, tolerance, and boundaries; complex characters who cannot be defined as purely good nor purely bad; a protagonist who truly practices what he preaches; AND fruity romance. Maybe this is just my sign to read more wuxia novels and escape danmei h*ll, but I 10/10 recommend Thousand Autumns.

I was kicking and squealing in excitement the whole time!! I loved it!!
