About this ebook

In 1957 Melba Pattillo turned sixteen. That was also the year she became a warrior on the front lines of a civil rights firestorm. Following the landmark 1954 Supreme Court ruling, Brown v. Board Education, she was one of nine teenagers chosen to integrate Little Rock's Central High School. This is her remarkable story. You will listen to the cruel taunts of her schoolmates and their parents. You will run with her from the threat of a lynch mob's rope. You will share her terror as she dodges lighted sticks of dynamite, and her pain as she washes away the acid sprayed into her eyes. But most of all you will share Melba's dignity and courage as she refuses to back down.

Excellent read. It really makes you feel as though you’re right there in the story with her. I’m reading this book since my son’s middle school class is reading it. I like reading the books he reads so we can talk about them. This story is inspiring and I can only imagine through her words what she went through and how she coped with the challenges of not just integration but just being a teenager. Definitely recommend.

This book can literally change perspectives on life. I'm glad that I finished it, but it's an emotional rollercoaster consisting of numerous times where you wish you could break the time plane to aid the nearly helpless victims of constant harassment by their relentless pursuers. All in all it's another example of how far this nation has come and even light to how far we still have left to go. If this book is next on your list then you're in for a great read and once you dig into it there's no going back.

The chapter do not line up with the audio book on YouTube. How am I supposed to read it if it isn't even in the right order. This is very disappointing. I am trying to do school work on this book but chapter 9 is in chapter 12. this really y needs to be fixed.
