About this ebook

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, the dark reimagining of the Persephone myth begun in ABANDON continues ... into the Underworld.

Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera isn't dead. Not this time. But she is being held against her will in the dim, twilit world between heaven and hell, where the spirits of the deceased wait before embarking upon their final journey. Her captor, John Hayden, claims it's for her own safety. Because not all the departed are dear. Some are so unhappy with where they ended up after leaving the Underworld, they've come back as Furies, intent on vengeance . . . on the one who sent them there and on the one whom he loves. But while Pierce might be safe from the Furies in the Underworld, far worse dangers could be lurking for her there . . . and they might have more to do with its ruler than with his enemies.

Well…this sucks. I had really started to fall for some of the mythology books that hit last year. Including the first in the Abandon Trilogy, Abandon by Meg Cabot. I was always really excited in history when we were studying mythology and actually went out of my way in college to take a mythology course. It’s fascinating, romantic and a very passionate era of our history and most of the Mythology based books I started reading actually conveyed that. Abandon really stuck me when I read it last year as one of the mythology books that really captured my attention. But, with a sad heart I was left wanting a little more out of the second book in the Abandon series. It wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t in love with the back and forth banter of Pierce. To me the constant indecision of her wanting to be in the Underworld staying with John, loving John, giving a tone of being angry with him was just too much for my brain. Don’t get me wrong I really did like the story, and I like the careful concept of their love. Most of all, the opening chapter of the book nearly knocked me flat! If I had an award for most powerful opening for the year, I believe I would be getting that engraved for Meg Cabot right now. I think what I really needed was a little more out of John. We did dive into his past more in this book but I think I was just needed more “face time” with him during this book. He is an excellent character and even though he has been in the background a little too much for my liking, I hold out promise for more! I guess at this point I am going to write my post reading feelings off to the fact that I’m usually left on the fence with mid-series novels, so will I continue reading the Abandon trilogy? Yes, so I guess that is what counts!
