About this ebook

Dear Friend,

May I share a story that is very dear to my heart?

It's a story of hillbillies and simple folk, net casters and tax collectors. A story of a movement that exploded like a just-opened fire hydrant out of Jerusalem and spilled into the ends of the earth: into the streets of Paris, the districts of Rome, and the ports of Athens, Istanbul, Shanghai, and Buenos Aires. A story so mighty, controversial, head spinning, and life changing that two millennia later we wonder:

Might it happen again?

Heaven knows we hope so. These are devastating times: 1.75 billions people are desperately poor; one billion are hungry. Lonely hearts indwell our neighborhoods and attend our schools. In the midst of it all, here we stand: you, me, and our one-of-a-kind lives. We are given a choice ... an opportunity to make a big difference during a difficult time. What if we did? What if we rocked the world with hope?

Worth a try, don't you think?

Rarely are we able to read from someone who is so able to relate how God speaks to him. He in turn is able to relate that encounter to us - and we not only understand his encounter but share his blessing. Outlive Your Life is just another instance of Max sharing God with us. (how does he continue to be so filled teaching -for all of us?). A pastor friend of mine once related to me after hearing Max speak at a pastors conference. My friend said as Max took the podium... he couldn't help but notice the 'thousands' of pastors in the audience suddenly grow quiet. As if they didn't want to miss a word. This was whom they came to see and hear, this man so 'in tune' with our Savior. My friend's description of Max was 'unassuming'. Like your neighbor you see at the mailbox, or a dad you see at a soccer game, or a man you sit by in a pew, not the one you are both there to see and hear. I'm reminded (forgive me Mr. Lucado if you happen on this...), of the Sermon on The Mount scene in Ben Hur. Jesus came to the podium there and the crowd hushed in anticipation - gives me goose bumps. Jesus was unassuming too. The directors/producers chose not to show Jesus' face. I like to think it was because they knew what an 'unassuming', humble servant He was ...and is. Thank you Mr. Lucado, for your service to us.

Through the use of stories and life lessons, Max Lucado asks us to take a good look around and ask, "What can I do? What legacy will I leave behind?" These are lessons we want our children to learn, yet we as adults need to ask the same questions of ourself. The stories and lessons teach us that we need to look around and make a difference. We should not think of this as a job just for missionaries. God uses the ordinary person, child or adult to make a difference.. This is not a book you just read through quickly. This is a book you must read, digest and then put into action.
