The Wrong Brother by Maureen Child 4 stars — I will admit that I’ve become more wary of my Harlequin books as time passes. I’m just not the same reader I was 10 years ago, you know? I notice things that I never did before. So I was wary going into this book, but I was pleasantly surprised! Was it perfect? No. Did they not even discuss a condom? Oh yes. But I enjoyed the fire between these two, and it was the kind of enemies to lovers that I generally enjoy. There were some misconceptions, some outside influences, but once they started to connect things started to change. Plus, I love learning about new things, and I thought Anna’s Trompe-l’œil painting stuff was fascinating! All in all a good solid quick Christmas read with pretty likeable characters and great chemistry. Mistletoe Magic by Sandra Hyatt 4 stars — Having one of the books go well usually means that the other one will be a dud — NOT SO! I enjoyed this one too! I was worried in that opening scene, b/c I had no idea what was going on or what the undercurrents were about. And normally I am not a huge fan of having information trickled out over the course of a book, but it didn’t drive me too crazy in this one. Especially because the whole story behind their marriage was kind of unique and fascinating. I was worried about Luke, and that I wasn’t going to like him because he was kind of abrupt, but I loved what Meg brought out of Luke in the end. They were cute together, and it was a feel good ending. I think it helped that I dove in with low expectations for both of these novellas — it ended up being a pleasant surprise!
