About this ebook

Imagine a reality where the world’s most powerful super-being does not grow up in Smallville, Kansas - or even America, for that matter… : RED SON is a vivid tale of Cold War paranoia, that reveals how the ship carrying the infant who would later be known as Superman lands in the midst of the 1950s Soviet Union. Raised on a collective, the infant grows up and becomes a symbol to the Soviet people, and the world changes drastically from what we know - bringing Superman into conflict with Batman, Lex Luthor and many others. From the mind of Mark Millar, the best-selling writer of THE AUTHORITY and Wanted, comes this strangely different take on the Superman mythos. Featuring art by Dave Johnson, Kilian Plunkett, Andrew Robinson, and Walden Wong, with an introduction by film producer Tom DeSanto (X-Men, X2: X-Men United, Transformers), this edition also features an extensive sketch gallery by Johnson, Plunkett and Alex Ross.

Interesting but the ending is a bit too much the what if of a Soviet Union Superman is good enough but making him a descendent of the Luthor's from future earth sent back in time from a dying earth renamed krypton was overkill. Storywise a solid read as it doesn't go for the cliche of making Superman a mindless conqueror but gives depth that is still with-in his nature to give reason why he does what he does. Though the inclusions of Batman and Green Lantern didn't feel necessary nor organic they try to give them origins for this world but still fit like other characters do who s are still themselves just a new setting or are timeless like wonder woman.

What a hidden gem for me to discover in the Superman universe. I've read more Superman co.ics than I can count, I purchased this one in the summer of 2022, in the middle of a brewing war in the Ukraine. Crimea was being illegally invaded. This book was written in 2003. I had to go back in memory to the George W Bush administration, which itself was a horrible time for the United States. 2003 was a difficult year in my youth, I remember it was in between Star Wars Episode 2 and 3. Alot to be said about bringing Darth Vader to life in those years. I thought this comic was brilliant. A parallel reality for the character, and probably very cool for the Russian children to have their own version of our beloved icon. It was a little weird reading that Lous was married to Luthor in this one, I thought that was the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Still fun though. Thanks guys. -Christopher Edward

Red Son was another great Superman Anime/Cartoon Movie that I personally enjoyed but if you feel your threatened by the over zealos action or actions made by Russia and its military forces in Ukraine against civilians, this may not be the best movie to watch at this moment.
