Interwoven with the book is a twelve-page graphic novel. Each beautifully illustrated chapter opener links to the next to form a larger fictional story that perfectly complements the text.

I remember my mother buying this book for me when I was about twelve or thirteen years old. You would've thought my hands were superglued to this book based on how many pages I read in a day. But, I also remember how much I cried (again, as an emotional preteen) when I reached the end of this book, realizing that if the call to action this book details is not met, we would have children that wouldn't know what a fish was, or a ocean the color of the sky.

Mark Kurlansky is a former commercial fisherman and New York Times bestselling author of Cod, Salt, The Big Oyster, and other books. He’s won numerous awards, including the James A. Beard Award, ALA Notable Book Award, and New York Public Library Best Books of the Year Award. He lives with his wife and daughter in New York City and Gloucester, Massachusetts.
