About this ebook

The star of Investigation Discovery’s Dark Minds“the Harlan Coben of real-life thrillers”—takes readers inside a crime that shocked the nation (Allison Brennan, New York Times bestselling author).

In the summer of 2003, the Houston suburb of Clear Lake, Texas, was devastated when four young residents were viciously slain. The two female victims, Tiffany Rowell and Rachael Koloroutis, were just eighteen years old—popular and beloved. But when a killer came knocking, it turned out to be someone they knew all too well.

Seventeen-year-old Christine Paolilla was an awkward outsider until the girls befriended her. In this gripping true story, complete with 16 pages of dramatic photos, award-winning investigative journalist M. William Phelps delves into the heart of a baffling mystery to get to the truth of an act so brutal it could not be understood—until now.

I just found out about this book, and I wish I hadn't...Marcus was one of the first people to befriend me at the restaurant we worked at together. Granted, I knew nothing of his involvement in the lifestyle I've read about. He and his girlfriend were both very nice people and didn't deserve such a brutal ending to their lives. To this day, I still find myself thinking about them, and the day I read the horrifying news in the Houston Chronicle. Rest in Peace to them, and the other two victims.

I almost passed on this book, mainly because I dislike Phelps' style of writing (exclamatory, full of conjecture, obviously biased, etc) but I have been following this case. So.... this book is somewhat linear, with a lot of input from one of the victim's father. With respect to his grief, there's not a lot to factually support a lot in this book but then again, this is a grieving father we're talking about. It's hard to stay interested at times; I rated this book solely on topic.

This book is great. It gives the victims lives descriptions so that one actually feels awful reading about their deaths. It isn't just another true crime book. Christine is disgusting as well as her boyfriend Chris. I feel since she likes needles so much that she should get the BIG needle but I guess her age factored in. Too bad.
