Although I'm still not a fan of the protagonist Yanko (He's less than heroic - self-centred, self-involved and not very bright, so far he has only helped himself, often screwing his friends in the process.) I am very interested in the world-building. A little steampunk meets magic meets the age of exploration.

I can't get enough of Lindsay Buroker aka Ruby Lionsdrake, I think I have read just about everything she has written under both pen names. She has a fantastic imagination and a genius mind for story telling. You can't help but fall in love with each and every character, they really come to life and you'll feel every emotion you can possibly have while reading each one. She has an uncanny ability to keep it so exciting you can't put the books down and when you're done you can't wait to read the next one!

I'm loving the story so far, but I have to admit the protagonist is extremely unlikable when he shows his suspicious, untrusting, often racist side. I am however really looking forward to him regretting it and eating some humble pie. despite his irrational negativity, I find his desire not to cause lethal harm endearing and the story itself keeps me eager for more, with or without him. it's the first time I can say I truely enjoy a book without having to like or relate to the protagonist. 2 thumbs up.
