After reading "A Long, Cool Rain," it seemed impossible for Drew to become a sympathetic protagonist. However, he was such a well-written and complex character that it was impossible not to love him. Unfortunately, it was Megan who was the insufferable character. Her constant self-flagellation ("I deserve to be sad," "I don't deserve to be happy"...) and wishy-washy attitude was in utter contradiction to the portrayal that she was a strong, independent woman, and was very irritating. She caused the entire conflict of this story with her selfishness, and although I did want to root for Drew's ultimate happiness, I wished he had walked away in the end. and found happiness elsewhere. Also, the constant comparisons of Drew to his mom were awful. What Isabelle did was far more unforgivable, as her actions involved lying to her own child for several decades.
