About this ebook

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE—THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER FROM THE AUTHOR OF BIG LITTLE LIES AND HERE ONE MOMENT

At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read…

My darling Cecilia,
If you’re reading this, then I’ve died…

Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not only the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. And then imagine that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive...

Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. But that letter is about to change everything—and not just for her. There are other women who barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they, too, are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

Depressing, pretentious, and sadistic -- it makes you care about the characters only to savage them at the end, showing how they COULD have been happy, if only..... Pointing out the vagaries of fate while wallowing in the characters' pain and suffering seems like something written by a high school sophomore, shocked (shocked!) at life's unfairness while getting an erotic charge out of her power to inflict pain on both character and reader.

Book is an okay read. Becomes predictable pretty early on and the writing is kind of bland but the characters are fairly interesting, even if their decisions become frustrating. Nearly all characters ultimately make poor final decisions and are lame martyrs in the end rather than the strong, inspirational people you hope they will become.

The best and most well written part of this book is the final two chapters. It is as if she had those in her mind, and then hastily put together a string of events (the entire book) to bring her to those 2 chapters of poignant thought provoking writing.
