About this ebook

Before the Baudelaires became orphans, before he encountered A Series of Unfortunate Events, even before the invention of Netflix, Lemony Snicket was a boy discovering the mysteries of the world.

In a fading town, far from anyone he knew or trusted, a young Lemony Snicket began his apprenticeship in an organization nobody knows about. He started by asking questions that shouldn't have been on his mind. Now he has written an account that should not be published, in four volumes that shouldn't be read. This is the first volume.

Lemony Snicket does it again, with a fast-paced, tightly plotted, and luxurious mystery starring the man himself. The same noirish feel is there and serves the story well. Unfortunately, it ends far too soon and left me wanting more. I guess I'll settle in for the wait.

If you're a fan of the Series of Unfortunate Events books, you'll enjoy this book. It has the dreary but charming writing style of Snicket and has a quite a few nods at his other books.

The manner in which Handler shamelessly, yet carefully and deliberately, delves back into this mythos is something that, before now, I had believed to be impossible for any author to do with such impressive skill as what you will find written on these pages.
