About this ebook

In this electrifying follow-up to Kwame Alexander's Newbery winner The Crossover, soccer, family, love, and friendship take center stage. A New York Times bestseller and National Book Award Longlist nominee.

Twelve-year-old Nick learns the power of words as he wrestles with problems at home, stands up to a bully, and tries to impress the girl of his dreams. Helping him along are his best friend and sometimes teammate Coby, and The Mac, a rapping librarian who gives Nick inspiring books to read.

This electric and heartfelt novel-in-verse bends and breaks as it captures all the thrills and setbacks, action and emotion of a World Cup match.

"A novel about a soccer-obsessed tween boy written entirely in verse? In a word, yes. Kwame Alexander has the magic to pull off this unlikely feat, both as a poet and as a storyteller. " —The Chicago Tribune

We purchased this book on Sunday night just before 10pm and its now Tuesday evening. I'm shocked because it's mid August and my 11 yr old son who isn't big on reading books is halfway finished. Must be a good one!

i love this book tho am not much of a reader seeing that soccer is my favorite sport and some of my classmates to so we choose for bookclubs and i read the whole book in 6 days well since we only had 20 minutes to read otherwise i might of finished in 2 days. April was the mvp of liking the book with soccer being the topic to and am a sucker for romance. im still surprised i liked this book since im more into manga since most normal books are boring but this book was interesting all the way through and the thoughtful way of making the book poetic made it easy to read. idk if this a good review but i just felt like writing o and also i wish alex makes a part 2 to this story because it was so good but its pretty unlikely
