the building tension between the main characters, surprises, and action made it impossible to put this book down. thoroughly entertaining and i plan to delve into another of her works shortly.

The Highlander (Victorian Rebels, #3) by Kerrigan Byrne is a dark, emotionally charged Victorian Romance set in the Scottish Highland's and England. While, Book 3, it can read as a stand alone. Well written with well-developed, captivating and seductive characters. The storyline is unique, intriguing, with a tenacious heroine and a dangerous Highlander. Lieutenant Colonel Liam MacKenzie, aka, the Demon Highlander, and Laird to the MacKenzie clan. Has a fiery passion during the heat of battle, a ferocious temper, bigger than life persona and dark secrets with a dark past, rite with rife, abuse, and protective of those he loves. Miss Philomena, aka Mena, is not just a mysterious, meek, Spinster governess to Liam's two teenage children. She has dark secrets of her own running from a dark, dangerous past. She has been abused, betrayed and placed into deplorable conditions, by the person who claimed to love her. Both have trust issues, been shamelessly hurt beyond anything a person should have to endure. Can Mena's lightness conquer Liam's darkness? Will they learn to trust each other, before its too late for them both? Danger lurks, passion flares and love blossoms. Kerrigan Byrne has done many things to pay the bills, from law enforcement to belly dance instructor.
