Ken Follett è uno dei più famosi giallisti britannici della storia. Nato a Cardiff (Galles) nel 1949, scrivere romanzi è per lui inizialmente un hobby, finché nel 1978 La cruna dell'ago lo rende celebre in tutto il mondo. Non ha mai fatto mistero della sua avversità per il cristianesimo. Nel 2010 fu firmatario, assieme ad altre 54 figure pubbliche, della lettera aperta al The Guardian contro la visita di stato di Benedetto XVI nel Regno Unito.
