About this ebook

Red Queen meets Shadow and Bone in this #1 New York Times bestselling debut about a girl forced to use her gift for sensing—and absorbing—other people’s feelings to protect the empire from assassins.

Steeped in intrigue and betrayal, Burning Glass captivates with heartrending romance, dangerous magic, and one girl’s quest for redemption.

In Riaznin, it’s considered an honor for Auraseers like Sonya—girls with a rare form of synesthesia—to serve as the emperor’s personal protector, constantly scanning for feelings of malice and bloodlust in the court. But Sonya would rather be free.

After the queen’s murder and a tragic accident, Sonya is hauled off to the palace to guard a charming yet volatile new ruler. But Sonya’s power is reckless and hard to control. She’s often carried away by the intense passion of others.

And when a growing rebellion forces Sonya to side with either the emperor who trusts her or his mysterious brother, the crown prince, Sonya realizes she may be the key to saving the empire—or its greatest threat.

An enjoyable and addictive book, however the repetitiveness of Sonya's thoughts was annoying. I can understand the author trying to get us to understand her reoccurring guilt, but it could have been written in less detail each time. The love angle was hot and mysterious and her unique abilities being uncovered was captivating. Overall a good read for the price.

I adore this book! I truly do. I loved Pia and Sonya's friendship, I loved the setting, the story, I loved it. However, I feel like the climax was a little too early. Because for this it made me begin to drift from reading the rest of the book and once I saw how many pages were left, I sort of came loose of the hook that the book had me on. I also believe that the beginning was a little slow but I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised. I loved the relationship between Anton and Sonya thkugh those two boys truly angered me sometimes! Haha! At the beginning when Sonya finally met the emperor and he was making moves on her, I was in shock LOL. Anton, oh, Anton... his stubbornness was truly agitating haha! though, I still fell for him as well. Overall, I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. My complaints are most about the point in which the climax began and how slow the beginning was.

Fell in love with this book. It kept you on your toes and constantly trying to guess what will happen next but it was full of twists and surprises. Can't wait to read the 2nd book!
