About this ebook

The #1 bestseller

‘A terrific story, originally told. All hail the new Queen of Crime!’ HEAT

‘A web of a plot that twists and turns and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. A page-turner, but don’t read it before bed if you’re easily spooked!’ SUN

You think you know who to trust? You think you know the difference between good and evil? You’re wrong ...

The body of the head teacher of an exclusive Devon school is found hanging from the rafters in the assembly hall.

Hours earlier he’d received a package, and only he could understand the silent message it conveyed. It meant the end.

As Exeter suffers a rising count of gruesome deaths, troubled DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles must solve the case and make their city safe again.

But as they’re drawn into a network of corruption, lies and exploitation, every step brings them closer to grim secrets hidden at the heart of their community.

And once they learn what’s motivating this killer, will they truly want to stop him?

“WARNING: Most definitely *not* for the faint-hearted!” Now how could I resist this kind of statement? I like gruesome and I like the idea that there’s a different kind of psychopath out there. And while there were several gruesome deaths, it was the plot and character enrichment that drew me in and kept me there for the duration of the book. The book is told by many people … more like a series of short stories. It was a bit confusing at the start but soon became clear where I was being lead. The individual stories bounced from ‘back then’ to the present where DS Adrian Miles and DS Imogen Grey are investigating. What ties all these deaths together? That is what keeps the reader glued to every page. Without giving away anything, by the end of the book I was rooting for the bad guy. This does not read like a debut novel. The plot is intricate, but strong. The character development was drawn by a fine hand. Secrets and lies abound at every corner. Throw in a few corrupt cops and you have a substantial police thriller. I highly recommend this one to anyone who likes not only police thrillers, but psychological suspense. Many thanks to the author / Harper Collins UK / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased

It was extremely slow to begin with. It picked up a little. Just not a book that I feel is a must read and I'm actually disappointed that I even spent $4 on it. It's not horrible just not a book I would've bought if I had known.

A bold and brave story for a debut novel! This book pulled no punches, it took me a few chapters to get into it and it wasn't at all like I was expecting but it soon sucked me into this twisted tale. I liked how it was written with characters each having chapters skipping between past and present, a clever way of reveling more of the characters backgrounds. I had worked out who the murderer was quite early on but in this book that isn't really a problem as there is so much more too this story then that!
