About the author

Dr Kan Qian teaches Modern Chinese language at all levels in Oriental Studies at the University of Cambridge. She is a linguist by training and her current research interest is in the development of language teaching materials in both the conventional and multimedia forms. She has published the following learning materials: Colloquial Chinese (Routledge 1995 and 1998), Colloquial Chinese CD-Rom (Routledge 1998), BBC Chinese Phrase Book (BBC Books, 1996), Interactive Guide to Chinese Characters CD-Rom (China Chain, 2001). Developing Writing Skills in Chinese (Routledge 2003, co-author with Boping Yuan).
