About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Jake Brigance is back! The hero of A Time to Kill, one of the most popular novels of our time, returns in a courtroom drama that The New York Times says is "riveting" and "suspenseful."

Clanton, Mississippi. 1990. Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid sixteen-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Jake’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career, his financial security, and the safety of his family on the line.

In what may be the most personal and accomplished legal thriller of John Grisham’s storied career, we deepen our acquaintance with the iconic Southern town of Clanton and the vivid cast of characters that so many readers know and cherish. The result is a richly rewarding novel that is both timely and timeless, full of wit, drama, and—most of all—heart.

Bursting with all the courthouse scheming, small-town intrigue, and stunning plot twists that have become the hallmarks of the master of the legal thriller, A Time for Mercy is John Grisham’s most powerful courtroom drama yet.

There is a time to kill and a time for justice. Now comes A Time for Mercy.

Don’t miss John Grisham’s new book, THE EXCHANGE: AFTER THE FIRM!

I won't read any more of Grisham's books after this one. I wasn't going to read this one, but I said....last one. Grisham's books have become much too formulaic. You always know by the title what is going to happen...maybe not all the details, but the final outcome. A Time For Mercy is no different. My favorite books by Grisham were "Painted House" and 'A Time to Kill". And I've read every one he's written but I've come to the end..

As our times have changed since Mr.Brigance first appered on the scene, our beloved author has softened the take on poisoning of racism. This is good. Once you read a lot of Grisham you are familiar with his cadence. This book is very interesting, there are many characters and the suffering of young family breaks your heart. In the beginning I thought there was too much rambling information but I changed my mind, and find it informative, deliberate and vital to the story. Don't miss a word. It's good.

At first, this book seemed completely false and vile. The details of the crime were extremely gory and horrible. The way characters spoke about it was just as gruesome and seemed exaggerated just to get a reaction from the reader. On that note, the descriptions of those awful scenes could have been toned down. There was no need to explain in detail about all of the atrocities the police officer committed nor was the detail about the crime scene necessary. The worst part was the way the characters brushed off some of the horrible things they said. Fortunately, besides all of that, the book ran its course and, despite seeming like it would make a turn for the worse, had an epic ending that did not disappoint.
