Perhaps I've become too shaped by the current portrayals of these characters. Regardless, the word-of-mouth and legend associated with this classic tale did not match the quality in my opinion. Darkseid didn't strike me as being very... um, well... "Darkseid" in this story. He's more "Metron" than anything; especially with his motivation being centered in scientific experimentation and mastering newly discovered dark powers. The respective joint missions of Superman-Orion; J'onn J'onzz-GL John Stewart; and Batman-Forager were great. Lightray-Starfire was rather forgettable, while I've still yet to figure out how Etrigan had any impact on anything. The third act surprise is nicely done, however the grand finale felt truncated; prematurely concluded. I'm not a fan of Mike Mignola's unique art either, which didn't please me. Overall, I wasn't satisfied with the product that the $25 price tag demanded.
