About this ebook

“This book blew me away, completely. Gripping from page one, I—quite literally—couldn’t put it down.”—Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners

Growing up, Mallory Dodge learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime. Now, after years of homeschooling, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at a public high school. But she never imagined she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet soon it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory must make a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants and the truths that need to be heard.

I am FLOORED!!! This book was so captivating that I couldn't put it down. I had never heard of this author or knew anything about this book before I saw the colorful artwork as I strolled around the corner at Barnes and Nobles. I gave the book a chance while picking up some other books in case this one was a stinker. Boy was I wrong!! I started reading it during lunch and I couldn't put it down. I went back to work and I couldn't get the book out of my mind. So I ordered the digital version and off I went. Here as I type this review it is about thirty hours since I picked up this put and now I am 300 pages later still captivated by the book that I finished reading roughly an hour ago. This book centers around Mallory, a timid girl who at the beginning of the novel struggles with the smallest of conversations. The way that the author captured the internal struggle for Mallory to speak is so believable that it hurts. My heart bled for this timid girl who seemed so much younger than seventeen when the book started. The name "Mouse" really fit her. However, only a few pages into the book we are introduced to Rider. It was through this character that we really see the concept of forever be explored. The bond that they shared was so genuine and pure that it seemed like nothing could break them. Throughout her childhood, Rider was the one person in the world that Mallory ever really felt connected to. Who could fathom that what they endured during their youth would translate into a bond that deep? While the two seem so vastly different, by the end of the story you'll see that they are so alike it's simply perfect. I loved every moment of this story. It captivated me from start to finish. Even now, as I write this I am contemplating reading it one more time to fall deep into the story all over again. Please be aware though, I did skip certain scenes of the text, but they were not overpowering. This book is very real and raw. If you're a parent considering reading this book for your young teenage, consider language and some sexual content. Like I said, it wasn't very much and it wasn't overpowering, but please note that it is there.

Handles the subject matter of child abuse fine. Just did not like this bk as well as some of her other books. Not sure why. I think the heroine wasn't described very clearly and I was confused by how she looked so maybe I just couldn't capture her in the story. It had a couple of moments. But otherwise was just ok. Maybe if it was less expensive. Maybe it's me...

Oh-Em-Gee... let me just say, before I read this book I read the reviews- I don't even know why... I was gonna get it anyway. I don't ever write reviews because personally I don't think they help me. But this book though. I had to do one. I was moved to tears, and that's a lot, I don't even cry for movies let alone a book but as I always said, in books you see what movies can't always show you and boy did I see some stuff. Just read the book yourselves and you'll see.
