I love this writer. There is one problem I have with her books, I can only read them at home. If not I embarrass myself out in public. I cannot read her novels without laughing out loud. I don't mean a sweet little giggle, no, I laugh until I can't catch my breath. Maybe we have the same since of humor, I'm not sure what it is. I found this story to be the best one she has written, but I might have said that last time. If I'm having a bad week, I can pick up a Jen Turano book and reread it or just some parts. I am immediately taken on a fun and exciting journey. Even her characters have fun names. Temperence Flowerdew, a former wallflower is abducted and thrown into a carriage. She's later placed on a train and ends up in Chicago. Her life time best friend Gilbert Cavendish, in a roundabout way shows up and rescues her. The plot thickens, and there are a lot of who done it parts. I kept trying to figure it out, and I was delightfully surprised at the very end. I had so many favorite quotes, but I chose one that I hope doesn't contain too much of a spoiler. “We best be putting on our disguises, Mercy. It won't do us no good if she gets a look at out faces.” “It also won't do us no good if you keep forgetting to call me Vivian.” “It's apothecary,” Temperance called before she could stop herself, the words echoing eerily around the interior of the coffin. Dead silence was all that greeted her until someone cleared their throat. “You reckon that's God talking to us, Mercy.” “Don't be an idiot, Eugene, the voice came from the coffin.” Get this book, you will love it. I was so surprised and delighted when I won a copy, during a contest, from the author. Thanks Jen, for the book as well as the extra goodies you sent me.

Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano is an Apart From the Crowd series book number three. You can read it as a stand alone, but this is such a delightful series I think you will want to also read the first two.( This story is filled with thoughtful reflections on God, adventure, romance, humor, mystery, and is just plain fun to read. The cover is beautiful and it helped me to begin to immerse myself into the time period. I loves the handsome and rather planned hero, Gilbert, and the lovely creative heroine, Temperance. You will have to read the story to find out why Temperance is really quite an ironic name for for our heroine. I loved watching the characters change and draw closer to God. The story is filled with some twists and turns and has a very satisfying ending. I really did not want it to end, and I think it is one of Jen Turano’s best. . Her books are so enjoyable to read while drawing me closer to God. I highly recommend Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano. I was given the book by the publisher and not required to write a review.

This is book three in Apart From the Crowd series, it is a stand alone book, however you will miss some great reading and lots of history of many of the characters in this book if you jump right into this one. You do not have to read previous books to understand what is going on in this one though. The worst part about a series is waiting for the next one to come out..... I was so excited to finally get to read the story of Temperance. I love her character and the many paths her life has taken her. She has such a love for life and a quick tongue. The sparks between her and Gilbert are amazing. They are opposite in so many ways yet blend so well to be best of friends. Jen Turano is one of my favorite historical, romance writers. I love the comedy, drama, mystery and spark in her writing. She makes it easy to follow along and get lost in her stories.
