My guess, the author wrote this over a weekend after taking a quantity of magic mushrooms or possibly peyote. It's a strange and psychedelic trip, but not very long.

Like the Southern Reach trilogy with all the normalcy taken out. Distilled weirdness. The sometimes awkward language only enhances the sense of strangeness and jilted perceptions.
