About this ebook

A new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series: Lt. Eve Dallas must separate rumors from reality when a woman who traffics in other people’s secrets is silenced.

The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it’s not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that’s exactly what happens one cold February evening.

The mortally wounded woman is Larinda Mars, a self-described “social information reporter,” or as most people would call it, a professional gossip. As it turns out, she was keeping the most shocking stories quiet, for profitable use in her side business as a blackmailer. Setting her sights on rich, prominent marks, she’d find out what they most wanted to keep hidden and then bleed them dry. Now someone’s done the same to her, literally—with a knife to the brachial artery.

Eve didn’t like Larinda Mars. But she likes murder even less. To find justice for this victim, she’ll have to plunge into the dirty little secrets of all the people Larinda Mars victimized herself. But along the way, she may be exposed to some information she really didn’t want to know...

I'm so confused by the positive reviews for this book. It was truly the worst of the series in my opinion. Just so very very boring, with no surprises or revelations. And the characters that we loyal readers have come to know and love didn't sound like themselves. The dialogue was off, as if written by someone other than the original author. Really disappointing.

J.D. Robb seems to have actually written this one herself (no ghostwriter!), as the style and tone are reminiscent of her earlier books (up to Salvation in Death). The plot is tightly woven and moves at a good pace; the characters are fleshed out; and the little details (or lack thereof) that allow long-term readers to accuse her of ghostwrtiting are present, making the book familiar. I haven't recommended a J.D. Robb novel in a long time, but I recommend this one. I actually stopped binge-watching Netflix to finish it!

I have read every single one of the JD Robb series and have loved them. This was was Just OK and my least favorite book in the lot. Usually the investigation will lead to a good motive as to why they killed and will delve into the killer psyche. She didn't do that here and honestly I was disappointed with the book as a whole. Hopefully the next one will be muchhhhh better as I typically only buy JD Robb new.
