About this ebook

Once he was Hero of the Beach...and of the Doom Patrol. Now Flex Mentallo, the Man of Muscle Mystery, returns to investigate the sinister dealings of his former comrade, The Fact, and a mysterious rock star whose connection to Flex may holding the key to saving them both. This fast-paced tale twists super-hero tropes, introducing one mind-boggling concept after another. This long-asked-for Vertigo title is collected at last, presenting an early collaboration between writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely, who would win much acclaim on ALL-STAR SUPERMAN.

I am a little dense when it comes to comics and my first read through this one had me befuddled, but with a few clues regarding how it all ties together. I spoke with The Recommender and after a brief discussion realized how close I was to breaking the case wide open. Read it and think about it and then read it again while thinking about it. Lastly, read it again while thinking.

About the author

Grant Morrison has been working with DC Comics for more than twenty years, beginning with his legendary runs on the revolutionary titles ANIMAL MAN and DOOM PATROL. Since then he has written numerous best-sellers ã including JLA, BATMAN and New X-Men ã as well as the critically acclaimed creator-owned series THE INVISIBLES, SEAGUY, THE FILTH, WE3 and JOE THE BARBARIAN. Morrison has also expanded the borders of the DC Universe in the award-winning pages of SEVEN SOLDIERS, ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, FINAL CRISIS and BATMAN, INC., and he is currently reinventing the Man of Steel in the all-new ACTION COMICS. In his secret identity, Morrison is a –counterculture” spokesperson, a musician, an award-winning playwright and a chaos magician. He is also the author of the New York Times best-seller Supergods, a groundbreaking psycho-historic mapping of the superhero as a cultural organism. He divides his time between his homes in Los Angeles and Scotland. Artist Frank Quitely first worked on the Scottish underground comics title Electric Soup in 1990. His big break into American comics was Flex Mentallo, a Doom Patrol spin-off written by fellow Glaswegian Grant Morrison for DC Comics' Vertigo imprint in 1996. He's also worked on JLA, New X-Men, THE SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS and the opening issues of the hit series BATMAN AND ROBIN.
