About this ebook

The most complete guitar tuning method ever published. Written by one of America's leading guitar teachers and designed for all guitarists, from beginners to professionals, this book offers a practical new approach to tuning the guitar. This system is equally effective for all types of guitars and even includes the principal alternate tunings used in classic guitar performance: dropped-D, low-G (DGDGBE), and the lowered third string (G to F#) but otherwise normal tuning often used to emulate the lute or vihuela. Using the principles described in this book and conveyed purely through diagrams, any guitarists can learn to tune with precision and confidence.

About the author

I'm a classic guitarist and a member of the artist-faculty of the North Carolina School of the Arts

where I maintain an active teaching and performing schedule. I previously served on the music

faculties of Michigan State University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Lansing

Community College. As a performer, I've appeared throughout the United States as solo recitalist,

chamber musician and clinician. The publication of Tuning the Guitar by Ear culminates a thirteen

year effort to develop and refine an effective guitar tuning system and create the materials needed

to teach and learn accurate tuning skills. Readers are invited to communicate with me regarding

this booklet. I welcome your comments and questions. Please send correspondence via e-mail or

conventional mail to: Gerald Klickstein, School of Music, North Carolina School of the Arts, P.O.
