الحكايات الشعبية لأهل زوني (إحدى قبائل الهنود الحمر، سكان أمريكا الأصليين) قُدّر لها أن تصبح جزءاً من الأدب الحي في العالم، فكل ظاهرة غريبة لاحظها الهنود الحمر لها أسطورة وضعت لتشرح أصلها: قرن الثور، الرقعة الداكنة في ظهر الأرنب، عُرف طائر أبو زريق، بريق الحرباء، جلجلة الأفعى... وفي الحقيقة كل شيء يستدعي الانتباه يمنح قوة للأسطورة، ولهذا تبدو الحكاية الشعبية للهنود الحمر كأنها لا تنضب، ذلك أنه في كل لغة حول العالم، هناك مجموعة مختلفة من الأساطير.
