About this ebook

Originally published in 1926, The Sun Also Rises is Ernest Hemingway’s first novel and a classic example of his spare but powerful writing style.

A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, the novel introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

“The ideal companion for troubled times: equal parts Continental escape and serious grappling with the question of what it means to be, and feel, lost.” —The Wall Street Journal

I didn't have much background info. before I started reading this book. I spent the first few chapters trying to figure out what was going on. It got really interesting and I enjoyed the bullfights and confusing personal relations. It ended just as I started to understand. I'm left with a glimpse into the life of the characters and with a desire to see France & Spain.

Absolutely no reason for this short, 90 year old book to be $12. If that price were charged when this book was published it would cost $150. Not only is Hemingway not getting that money, his kids aren't. Total copyright scam.

Easy read, hilarious content. Friends who drink together, travel together, and are entangled in a massive love triangle make for good topic of discussion or absurdity.

His life and accomplishments are explored in-depth in the PBS documentary film from Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, Hemingway. Known for his larger-than-life personality and his passions for bullfighting, fishing, and big-game hunting, he died in Ketchum, Idaho on July 2, 1961.
