This book was not their finest work, the tone was inconsistent and the plot was very formulaic for a majority of the book. Interesting ideas but I feel like they where lost in the conflicting plot lines some that add up but others that felt pointless. I also feel like the good characters where wasted and pushed to the side for other less interesting characters. I dont want to spoil for those who might enjoy this book more then I have so Ill stop here. I will not be getting the next book, Im invested in the Warriors series and I feel like my frustration with this first book will carry over to the second bravelands. I love erin hunters works and am excited for their other projects.

The book starts off at an incredibly fast pace, with conflict and lore being kinda just thrown at you and you have to be able to make sense of it. As the book goes on the pacing is better. The characters are good and all have believable flaws and personalities. But one thing that ticked me off is the conflict that occurs in the baboon troop. The culprit was all too predictable and right in your face. But hopefully this is just a red herring. The book ends on an ominous note that draws you in to read book 2
