Emilio Carlo Giuseppe Maria Salgari (Verona, 21 agosto 1862 – Torino, 25 aprile 1911) è stato uno scrittore italiano di romanzi d'avventura molto popolari. Autore straordinariamente prolifico, è ricordato soprattutto per essere il "padre" di Sandokan, del ciclo dei pirati della Malesia e di quello dei corsari delle Antille. Scrisse anche romanzi storici, come Cartagine in fiamme, e diverse storie fantastiche, come Le meraviglie del Duemila in cui prefigura la società di allora a distanza di un secolo, un romanzo scientifico precursore della fantascienza in Italia. Molte sue opere hanno avuto trasposizioni cinematografiche e televisive.
