About this ebook

The true story of Donna Ford, who between the ages of five and eleven was abused by her stepmother Helen. Labelled 'the bastard', the 'little witch' and 'the evil one'; beaten, isolated and afraid to even look at her own reflection, this beautiful little child was told she was lucky to be the victim of abuse - abuse which began as physical and mental, but progressed to the most appalling sexual attacks.

Despite an horrendous early life, Donna is now a successful artist and mother of three with an enormous enthusiasm and an optimism which completely belies her experiences.

In 2003, Donna watched as her stepmother was found guilty of 'procuring a minor' for sexual abuse and sentenced to two years in prison.

Beautifully written and savagely honest, The Step Child is Donna's story. It is an inspiring tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.

Donna you are very talented. You did an excellent job writing your story. My mother's name was also Donna and her story is similar to yours. She also went on to be an excellent mother and wife. She wanted to write her story but sadly died from cancer at the age of 59. She left quite a legacy of love and compassion behind and I miss her so much. Reading your story was agonizing. I wanted to reach through those pages at times and hug you and tell you everything was going to be ok. Your strength is amazing. Thank you!

Heartbreaking story of a little girl facing the most horrific moments no child should have to face. My heart broke throughout this story but it was heart warming and touching to hear her struggle ultimately led to her success. A successful artist a successful author and more importantly a kind loving caring successful mother who showed that horrific abuse doesn't have to define who you are. Well done Donna you are an inspiration.

Dave Pelzers. Was given the ice cube treatment as part of a ' new routine' by his abusive mom also reminded me of another book where I read the bit about another child being given the Ice Cube treatment by her mother. I thought about Dave's childhood- British style- child abuse is worldwide whether in America or England. I'm amazed how Ford survived everything. She has the same name as my Aunt. God love her.
