DONALD WESTLAKE (Brooklyn, 1933 - San Pancho, México, 2008) es uno de los mejores y más prolíficos autores estadounidenses del género negro. Empezó trabajando en una agencia literaria, pero en 1959 decidió ponerse a escribir a tiempo completo y utilizando numerosos seudónimos. Es autor de varios guiones cinematográficos y de más de cien libros, entre las que se encuentran A quemarropa, Un diamante al rojo vivo y Atraco al banco. Su trabajo fue reconocido con tres premios Edgar, y fue nombrado Grand Master por la Mystery Writers of America en 1993.
