This is a bizarre and twisted book that had me racing through it until the end. Naomi Honea returned home to Winchester, Tennessee after the death of her father. Her plan was to take over the family’s organic farm, even though it means giving up her dreams of Hollywood stardom. Once she gets home, however, things don’t go as planned since she ends up finding dead bodies in the lab’s freezer. Once the FBI is called in, the pace picked up even more as they work with local law enforcement to find out what was happening on Honea Farm. I enjoyed reading about favorite characters from previous books, especially Dr. Rowan Dupont Brannigan, from “The Undertaker’s Daughter.” But I also enjoyed meeting new characters, including Naomi and her former school girl crush Casey Duncan, the hunky FBI agent whose attraction to Naomi smoulders in all of the murder scenes, keeping my focus off the violence and on the romance. There were plenty of suspects and lots of clues, too, so solving this murder mystery along with Naomi and Casey was an entertaining puzzle. The book is short and can be read quickly; nevertheless, the characters were fully developed and a pleasure to get to know. With a runaway train kind of racing from scene to scene, with more dead bodies, hidden places around the farm and Naomi insistent that her parents knew nothing about what was going on there, this book was fascinating. It even included a Nazi war criminal and her offspring, a woman named Arlene Beck who worked for the Honea family for decades. Revelation after revelation had me gasping and reading pages quickly as I wanted to know what was happening as much as Naomi and Casey did. This is a book that gave me chills and thrills!
