About this ebook

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist return to the Girl in the Dragon Tattoo series in this ripped-from-the-headlines, high-octane follow-up to Stieg Larsson's The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. • Also known as the Millennium series

“Rest easy, Lisbeth Salander fans—our punk hacker heroine is in good hands.… A twisty, bloody thrill ride.… An instant page-turner.” —USA Today

The next installment in the Millennium series: a genius hacker who has always been an outsider; a journalist with a penchant for danger. She is Lisbeth Salander, the girl with the dragon tattoo. He is Mikael Blomkvist, crusading editor of Millennium. One night, Blomkvist receives a call from a source who claims to have been given information vital to the United States by a young female hacker. Blomkvist, always on the lookout for a story, reaches out to Salander for help. She, as usual, has plans of her own. Together they are drawn into a ruthless underworld of spies, cybercriminals, and government operatives—some willing to kill to protect their secrets.

Lagercrantz's continuation of the Millennium saga definitely brings the characters back to life, but some of the charm is absent. I felt a warm sensation when I completely understood the author's mentions of recent technology that felt extremely relevant to my personal interests, such as RSA encryption, artificial intelligence, algorithms, quantum supercomputers, and Marvel mythology. However, sometimes, that content is layered too thick and felt too sensational at times. Lagercrantz succeeds at bringing Salander and Blomkvist back into the spotlight of modern Swedish fictional crime literature. The book reads well and constantly tempts you to read through the next chapter, but some aspects of the novel just didn't thrill me to the very last page like Larsson's works did. It felt like there were thirty to forty pages devoted to wrapping the story up after the action ended. I almost wanted to be left with a cliffhanger like I felt between the first and second novels in the Larsson series. With all that being said, I am still looking forward to Salander's next adventure under Lagercrantz's pen.

This book advertises that it is a continuation of the great stories by "Stieg" Larsson and his delightfully brilliant and intriguing character Lisbeth Salander. Nope. Not even close. Yes, Lisbeth or someone trying to be her is mentioned in this story but no way is it anything but a disappointing attempt to catch lightning in a bottle.

Very disappointed. The plot and writing are no where near the same level as Larsson's.The story line so fragmented that I was left wondering what the connection was between the situation and when I finally learn what it was, it certainly wasn't that interesting or intriguing. It was like "what else is new". The other problem with the stoty line is the very glib in the manner in which situations are resolved - like a one hour cop show that needs to make it all look OK in less than 60 minutes. Overall, the book lacks descriptive detail and character development that made Larsson's writing so compelling and doesn't have the intriguing resolutions "I didn't see that one coming" that elevated Larsson's writing to a much higher level.
