About this ebook

Collects Spider-Man Noir #1-4. It was 1933 and the Great Depression was just getting started. And so was the corrupt mob boss the Goblin. When embittered, angry Peter Parker meets a spider and its life-changing bite, he may have just inherited the force to honor the phrase, "If those in power can't be trusted, it's the responsibility of the people to remove them."

FYI, this is the first and origin story in the Spider-Man Noir series. Yeah, these Spider-Man Noir books just don't really do it for me and I think I figured out why. While I'm not against a different interpretation of Spider-Man and his rogue gallery of villains when done in an interesting way or in moderation; Spider-Man Noir doesn't do either of these things. Instead, it sort of copies Spider-Man's abilities and relationships, then just throws out everything else you know from its source material. For instance, in this book, Vulture is a circus freak that strongly resembles Baraka from Mortal Kombat II. He's relegated to being a low-ish level thug whose cannibalism is also used as an intimation tactic for Goblin's organization. He's so far removed from the Vulture that I'm familiar with that he could have been under any other name and it wouldn't have mattered at all. Anyhow, if you're interested in a darker Spider-Man story, this may be for you; it's just not for me.

Fairly generic Spider-Man story layered on top of a relatively inconsequential time period. Characters have no arcs. Artwork is competent. Overall a fine but very skippable story.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. The art style is very gritty, overall it fots the theme of the comic as a whole, a more mature, dark look that mixes well with the pre wwII era,
