I bought this book based on all the good reviews, but I hate to say that I did not enjoy it. I really liked it for the first few chapters, but it became very dull after that. My five year old daughter lost interest when it turned into a love story and didn't have anything to do with being scary.

The third grade teacher, Mr. Granite, wouldn't ignore Miss Mary and her boyfriend named Zack. They start smooching! Mr. Granite won't ignore them for a math lesson! Mr. Granite is from another planet! Mr. Granite isn't the only one who hates Zack, but Mr. Klutz, the principal, of the school hates Zack! Mr. Klutz is nuts! Miss Mary is the weirdest student teacher in the history of the world! And a song called I Love Dirt is a song that's going to be on T.V. and Zack plays it! Even Mr. Granite totally loses his mind and starts being simply grumpy that Zack will never ever stop interrupting his math lesson!

This book was on display at our public library for suggested Halloween books and my 9 yo daughter checked it out. She was reading aloud to me and at the bottom of page 5 there is a paragraph (that has nothing to do with the story) that says “*What are you looking down here for? The story’s up there, dumb head!” We teach our daughter not to call names and I thought this was very inappropriate for a children’s book.
