I started with Cussler's newer novels. Dirk Pitt and his cadre have definitely evolved over the years. Thecharacters in Raise the Titanic are grittier and less romanticized than in his latest works. The bad guys, while still very egotistical, are not as maniacal making them more believable. The less refined personality of the hero and other protagonists also helped in the same way. As for plot, blending the legend of the Titanic with the intrigue of Cold War espionage made for an adventure I'm glad I took!

This book is by far one of the best Clive Cussler has ever written, one of my favorites of course is Sahara the movie was good, of course the book was far better. Titanic was written before the ship was found even found so at the time of this writing nobody really knew. Now if you did not like it for the reason that it for some reason or another it does not fit with what the facts are you have to remember of course you are reading a work of fiction and not a nonfiction found in your library or bookstore.

This was the first Dirk Pitt novel that I read. I have since read them all and by far to me the best one is "Dragon". This was the scariest plausible book I've ever read. My love affair with Dirk Pitt will continue until one of us no longer exists. I also read the Oregon files mostly because I live in Oregon but they are excellent also. Love Cussler!
