So I did things backwards and read Under His Rule before reading this prequel but this just makes the series even better. I love the characters and the backstory. It's sad and sweet and intriguing. Before His Choice by Clarissa Wild is the prequel to her first book in the dark romantic duet entitled Under His Rule. This short read provides background information about Noah (the son and heir of the patriarch of The Family, his parents and their relationship, and the community he resides within known as The Family. The community is a male dominated society where women are expected to be subservient and live by the rules of The Family or face severe consequences. At the conclusion of this book, Noah assists a young girl known as “Her” to temporarily escape The Family for her own protection and safety.
