I loved the Rogue Squadron series that is now Legends. This is in the same style. Sadly the story writing is subpar. They take a story that should be a single issue and stretch over 3-4 issues so they can rake in more cash. I no longer buy single issues due to this stretch, and now wait for Graphic Novels. Even in the novel though the stretching of story gets quite boring at times and I have to walk away for a while.

Poe Dameron Vol.1 is really good and entertaining. It has some problems here and there, but for the most part it's pretty solid.

Beyond just a prequel to Ep. VII, this story does a nice job establishing Dameron as a valuable commander while getting across the barely-cold-war raging with the First Order.
