About this ebook

Published in 1859, The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin introduced the theory of natural selection to a newly-receptive public. As a young naturalist on the second voyage of HMS Beagle (1831-36), Darwin collected many plant and animal specimens, and it was his close examination of them that eventually led to his theories on evolution and natural selection.

One of the most important books of all time. Darwin lays out his explanation (which after all is what a scientific theory is) for how evolution works for everyone to understand. He would later be vindicated on most of his findings and corrected on others but his explanation was a triumph of scientific thinking. It is a fascinating read and despite being misunderstood and misrepresented by people who have personal beliefs that conflict with it's objective truth it stands as a testament to the life work of a powerful mind. I would recommend following this up with Richard Dawkins' books on evolution such as "The Selfish Gene" or Jerry Coyne's "Why Evolution Is True". However to understand evolution you must start here. This is the first great study on the subject and one of the most concrete scientific theories of all time as Darwin gathers facts to sort them into evidence that can be verified and puts them together like a detective solving a mystery. He doesn't start with a conclusion and end with evidence that proves his conclusion. He starts with wanting to know "How" do we have so many different types of animals that are in ways so similar and not knowing "How" he discovers "How" and ends up showing us how. He doesn't answer everything but he wisely leaves what he can't sort out for future scientists and the beauty and testament to this book's truth is that we did. This is the heart of science.

Darwin gave a beautiful explanation about natural selection. science is filled with lots of convention rather than truth. so , evolution in such case is just a convention but can be observed in day today life. evolution is against the theory of special creation. So, people who believe god cannot understand Darwinism but people who believe nature and who tries to understand it can believe Darwinism. wherever you go "survival at the fittest" applies.

About the author

Charles Darwin was an English naturalist and author best-known for his revolutionary theories on the origin of species, human evolution, and natural selection. A life-long interest in the natural world led Darwin to neglect his medical studies and instead embark on a five-year scientific voyage on the HMS Beagle, where he established his reputation as a geologist and gathered much of the evidence that fuelled his later theories.A prolific writer, Darwin’s most famous published works include The Voyage of the Beagle, On the Origin of Species, The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, and The Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals. Darwin died in 1882, and in recognition of his contributions to science, is buried in Westminster Abbey along with John Herschel and Isaac Newton.
