About this ebook

Both a great American adventure and a rare entry into asheltered world, Under the Big Top describes one man's pursuit of every child's fantasy: running away to join the circus. Bruce Feiler's unforgettable year as a clown will forever change your view of one of the world's oldest art forms and remind you of how dreams can go horribly wrong -- and then miraculously come true.

My mother first heard of Feiler when Glenn Beck interviewed him regarding his book on Moses and America. I have now read several of his books. I do not find Feiler to be a likable person. His books are about his own life, the places he lives, the things he experiences, the people he meets. He is course, immoral, ignoble. He is able to describe the people he meets in interesting ways, but the people he meets tend to also be vulgar and immoral for the most part with only a few exceptions. Most people have a few good points, and we certainly see those good points and are glad for them. But there aren't very many role models in Feiler's books. Thinking about it, the people in Feiler's world are like the people I meet at the alternative high school and like the people I meet in Cherokee. They are like the main character in All Quiet on the Western Front or like the main characters in Hesse's novels. As one Role Model described them, they are "like sheep without a shepherd." If only they were not so determined to reject the One Who would give meaning to their lives!
