This is my second favorite among Mr. Varnell's work. I really love the concept behind this story. A man goes back in time and tries to redo the past using all the knowledge he acquired in his previous life. The wuxia angle is unique. I've read many wuxia in my lifetime. I like that he's made the cultivation aspect a bit more simple than normal. Most wuxia/xianxia stories tend to place such a heavy emphasis on the cultivation that it bogs down the story. But perhaps my favorite aspect of this story is the romance. We don't see much yet. This volume is obviously a setup for future volumes, but I am greatly looking forward to seeing where this story leads me.

To start with, I’ve Followed Brandon’s other series, and currently do support him on Patreon, but my primary form of enjoying literature is still print (so I haven’t been reading the chapter by chapter early releases of this series), and I enjoy his style. This would be the first book in the genre that I’ve read, and after a false start, it grabbed my attention and kept me hooked until the To be continued on the last page. I would say this style/genre suits him well. The writing seems tighter and flows well throughout the book. This may be a good series to start out with, if you’re looking for one where you don’t mind not having a number of volumes in a queue to catch up on, since it’s just starting out.

This is an awesome, epic story with great world building, spectacular battles...and the occasional smackdown of those sorely in need of an 'attitude adjustment'. Brandon is a great writer and I highly encourage you to check this book out or some of his others.
