Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle *22. Mai 1859 in Edinburgh, Schottland; † 7. Juli 1930 in Crowborough, Sussex, England, britischer Arzt und Schriftsteller. 1887 veröffentlichte er die Abenteuer von Sherlock Holmes und dessen Freund Dr. Watson (Eine Studie in Scharlachrot). 1893 ließ er seine Romanfigur auf der Jagd nach Professor Moriarty sterben. Selbst seine Mutter, begeisterte Leserin, konnte ihn nicht umstimmen, bis Doyle 1900 an Typhus erkrankte und nach Norfolk reiste.
