When that alibi is served up as a fake, Summer moves to the top of the suspects list, but is soon joined by Monty’s ne’er-do-well son, Sawyer, who has racked up gambling debts he hoped his dad would pay off. Monty’s twin brother is engaging in shady financial deals. An affair, a Ponzi scheme, a disputed inheritance . . . there are as many motives as suspects, and soon Mattie and Hurley have turned up other, possibly related deaths.

Wisconsin, law-enforcement, lawyers, murder, murder-investigation, small-town, forensics, forensic-medicine, due-diligence, family-dynamics**** Not an unbiased review: I live in Wisconsin, and have a similar job history to main character. Use of present tense very disconcerting much of the time, other than that, I loved the way the mystery played out! The two main characters are beyond overbooked in their personal and professional lives and the current investigations are not only unusual but filled with more than the usual liars. Complex characters that many of us could have met and interacted with, solid plot with misdirections, twists, and outright red herrings all add up to a very fine read. No spoilers here.
