About this ebook

Having completed the two cycles of legend to which she has devoted her career so far, Anne Rice gives us now her most ambitious and courageous book, a novel about the early years of CHRIST THE LORD, based on the Gospels and on the most respected New Testament scholarship.

The book’s power derives from the passion its author brings to the writing and the way in which she summons up the voice, the presence, the words of Jesus who tells the story.

What a beautiful and moving story. I initially found this book because I was looking for something entertaining to read and Anne Rice has always held a place of high esteem as an author for me. It's been years since I read her Vampire Chronicle books but I still remember them as vastly entertaining and consuming pieces of literature. I saw her struggles with God in her previous books. Her questioning of the why and reason for God was sprinkled throughout her earlier books. Still I was unprepared for her headlong dive into Christianity in this book. I must confess that I expected a more sarcastic and skeptical view of Christ. I was pleasantly surprised that she embraced Jesus' childhood completely and totally. Her devotion to the story was apparent and I enjoyed every word of it. I expected as a Christian to be shocked and somewhat disbelieving of her words but I found myself to be assured, strengthened, and actually encouraged by her story. It brought a whole new level of meaning to me about who Christ is. She opened my eyes to two totally new concepts that I hadn't quite grasped before. Why was Jesus born as a human? So he could be frail and die of course. What would we pray for if every prayer was answered exactly as we spoke it? As for the answers I received I'll leave it to the reader to answer these questions themselves. Overall this book was beautifully done. I did sense a hesitation on Anne's part to be more specific about the daily routines of Jesus' life. I wish she would have taken more liberties to give us more specifics of his humanity even if it was just her point of view. I don't feel that she gave any disrespect to the story of Christ's childhood at all. The miracles he might have done were obviously there or else Mary wouldn't have approached Jesus at the wedding in Canaan to perform a miracle when they ran out of whine. This alone tells me that Jesus performed miracles centered around every day things often enough for Mary to realize his potential. Well done Anne Rice. Another beautiful story. I only wish the book was longer or that you would write more.

As a fan of Ann Rice's witches & vampires, I came across this book in the bookstore at my church. Not knowing she had delved into a new genre, my interest was piqued, so I bought it. I read it beginning to end in just a day or two. I was so riveted to the story, as only she could portray. I loved it and am looking forward to reading more!

Fantastic, fictional, idea of what Jesus' life might have been at 7 years of age. Enjoyed that it is written in first person; makes the reader identify with the character better. Suggest all read this & keep an open mind whilst doing so.
